History of the Flat Street Pub

The Flat Street Pub was opened in 2004. The co-owners of Berkshire Brewing Company in South Deerfield opened the pub with the idea of showing off their terrific ales in the great state of Vermont.  Flat Street quickly became Brattleboro’s favorite pub.

Steven Pardoe was hired as General Manager in 2005 and purchased the business on January 2, 2006. Steve decided to renovate the former Latchis Grille restaurant space in the lower level and work began work on a complete renovation in January 2008. In September of 2008, Chris McInerney joined Steve as a minority business partner and helped to oversee the finishing of the Tap Room restaurant. The Tap Room Restaurant was opened on April 1, 2009.

From April 1, 2009 through August 27, 2011, BLM Management Corporation (the corporate entity that owns both the pub and the restaurant) operated the Flat Street Pub (upstairs) 7 days a week serving pub style lunch and dinner along with ales and other micro brews from Europe and the US.  The Tap Room Restaurant was open 5 days a week featuring a larger menu, 30 draft beers, wine and spirits. The company employed a staff of 32.

On August 27, 2011 the lower level of the business was completely destroyed by floods due to Hurricane Irene. The pub was spared from significant damage but the walk in cooler that services the bar and the men’s and women’s rooms were destroyed thus rendering the pub unfit for operations. Steve and Chris signed a new lease with their landlord, The Latchis Corporation in late October and after complete renovations to the walk in cooler, the downstairs hallways and the men’s and women’s room, the Flat Street Pub was reopened on December 15, 2011. On February 23, 2012 we re-opened our kitchen and we are serving a full pub style menu in the upstairs Flat Street Pub.

At present, there is no specific timetable for reopening the Tap Room Restaurant.
